Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller freed from captivity by the secretive state have been reunited with their families in the US.

The two Americans flew into the Joint Base Lewis-McChord military base in Washington State at around 9am local time.

Mr Bae disembarked the plane with a suitcase, then smiled as he hugged and embraced family and friends.

He was followed by Mr Miller.

US officials said the pair flew back with James Clapper, the director of national intelligence.

Mr Clapper was the highest-ranking American to visit Pyongyang in more than a decade.
